Peter Reid's United side headed to the capital in the knowledge that all three points would secure Premier League survival but in doing so would hand arch-rivals Manchester United the title at the expense of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal side.

The Whites would play out a phenomenal 3-2 win over the Gunners with Mark Viduka's 88th minute strike sending the travelling fans wild to ensure another season of top flight football.

Saturday 6th May (1972) - The Don secures the FA Cup

Leeds picked up the FA Cup trophy for the first time in the club's history as an Allan Clarke header was enough to settle the encounter against Arsenal in the centenary final at Wembley.

It was a bruising encounter at the national stadium and celebrations were dampened slightly as Mick Jones dislocated his arm just two minutes from time. United though made the famous walk up the steps to lift the grand old trophy with Don Revie stating: "I've waited and sweated years for this day."
