Sunday Football: Chapeltown Fforde Grene complete first half of their bid for a cup double

Fforde lead the Terry Pears Premier by six points and hammered their nearest rivals in Sunday’s final despite playing the entire game with 10 men.

Chapeltown were 3-1 up at half-time and cruised to victory thanks to a brace from Kieron Goodison plus a goal each from Phil Allanson, Dave Allanson and Kane Blair. The East End Park reply came from a Paul Sykes penalty strike.

Two games were played in the Leeds Sunday League Championship with Kirkstall Crusaders finally suffering their first defeat through a 1-0 loss at home to new leaders West Leeds Wortley. Mark Ferguson bagged the game’s winner as Kirkstall also failed to score for the first time this season.

West Leeds Armley moved second after their 4-0 win at third-bottom Bramley Villagers. Ryan McQuade, Stephen Quinn, Simon Doherty and Shane Collins all netted a goal each.

Thursday evening saw a shock take place in the Leeds & District FA Sunday Senior Cup semi-final as Leeds Combination League leaders Hope Inn Whites were beaten 2-1 by relegation battling Leeds City Rovers. Goals from Zaheer Ahmed and Nick Clarke booked Rovers an Elland Road final against Seacroft to be played on May 4.

Hope Inn then travelled to Seacroft in the Jubilee Premier on Sunday but an ill-tempered game was abandoned after 89 minutes. Five red cards were issued, four to Hope Inn.

The top flight’s only fulfilled fixture saw HT Sports move third with a 2-0 win at Leeds City Rovers thanks to goals from Joe Tasker and Wayne Hudson. Belle Isle WMC against Horsforth Fairweather postponed and Pudsey Liberal Club given an away walkover against Halton Moor.

In the Premier, Whitkirk Wanderers moved third with a 6-3 win at home to South Leeds Independents. Jordan Walker’s double was backed up by strikes from Wayne Fairnington, Ashley Hoddell, Kingsley Wetherald and Glen Hewitt for the hosts. A Liam Connelly double and James Cunningham strike was in vain for Indy. Leaders Main Line Social moved another step close to sealing the league title through an away walkover at New Parnaby while Badri were given a home walkover against AFC Bramley.

In other league highlights, Swillington Welfare stayed top of Division One by edging a 4-3 thriller at Amaranth. A Dave Turner treble was in vain for the hosts against a Thomas Micklethwaite treble and Danny Waite strike.

New Pudsey stayed second with a 3-0 success at Oulton Athletic while Kippax Band Club remain third after winning 4-2 at home to Chapel Allerton.
