United head coach Marcelo Bielsa made the £7million summer signing available for the top-of-the-table Under-23s clash against the Clarets along with Izzy Brown, Lewis Baker, Jack Harrison and Jack Clarke.

Bamford marked his comeback from knee ligament damage by bagging three goals as the Whites played out a 6-3 victory in the Professional Development League with the forward completing 90 minutes of the fixture.

It was Bamford who notched first for the Whites as he cleverly dinked over an onrushing Tom Heaton in the hosts goal after Burnley had opened the scoring.

Jack Clarke stepped off the bench at half-time to make an immediate impact and level proceedings once more after the Clarets had restored their advantage before the break.

The winger was almost unplayable at times as he cut in from the left and curled a wonderful shot into the far corner.

A frantic spell followed as Clarke's goal sparked a flurry of three goals in four minutes with Burnley going ahead once more before Chelsea loanee Baker also notched with a well-placed shot from outside the area following a Bamford lay-off.

Fellow Blues midfielder Brown got himself on the scoresheet as he also completed the game unscathed stepping up his recovery from a torn ACL with a lovely volley from inside the box.

Bamford would add another as Clarke Oduor delivered with the striker able to tap home from underneath the crossbar following a Clarke flick.

The 25-year-old would then mark his comeback by grabbing a third and the match ball just five minutes from time as the pair combined once more to round off the scoring on an eventful afternoon at the Barnfield Training Centre.
