Park Life: Weather forecast suggests light at the end of the tunnel for fixture schedulers

ANOTHER week, another wash-out, with snow and ice this week's bug-bear.

Just one game survived the consequences of Saturday evening’s snowfall and that came in Burton Leonard for some reason.

A tiny village in between Harrogate and Ripon, I very much doubt they have undersoil heating or a 4G pitch on their ‘Sports Field’ ground so it’s a bit puzzling how they managed to get the game played.

And what a cracker it was with visiting Shadwell playing their part in sharing a 6-6 draw which featured eight different goalscorers.

I was on the way back from the Championship clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United on Saturday evening and the snow was piling down en route to Harrogate which is only 9.1 miles away from Burton Leonard.

So, the next time our grassroots football photographer, Steve Riding, needs to find a game that will definitely be on amidst weather issues we’ll send him to Burton Leonard, who are currently second in the Claro League’s Division Two.

Let’s hope Mr Riding has no problems finding surviving fixtures this weekend for which the forecast is promising for once.

Quite a bit of rain looks imminent on Friday morning but thereafter a largely dry weekend is predicted with temperatures getting up to the dizzy heights of 11 degrees on Sunday morning. And the temperature goes up another degree still where I’ll be this time next week as part of a six-day getaway break in Nolton Haven in Wales.

Rest assured my colleagues, such as Mark Absolon and Leon Wobschall and co, will look after The Goals while I’m sipping a pint overlooking St Bride’s Bay.

And I’m sorry chaps, the area is notoriously bad for phone reception so I’ll be well and truly off limits for a bit. Shhh. Don’t tell them the cottage has WIFI. See you in two weeks.
