When goalkeeper Jonny Maxted signed a three month loan deal with National League club Guiseley on Thursday he knew that he had some big boots to fill on his return to his native Yorkshire.

Maxted, 22, joined Guiseley from Forest Green Rovers where in the current season he found himself competing for the ’keeper’s jersey with summer signing Simon Lefebvre from Bordeaux and Sam Russell.

The former Doncaster Rovers and Hartlepool goalkeeper is the nephew of one of Guiseley’s 1991 FA Vase winning team – ’keeper Paul Maxted.

Jonny, who was raised in Boston Spa, said: “I grew up knowing all about Guiseley due to my uncle’s connection and I have seen the video of the Vase win a few times!”

Jonny joined Doncaster Rovers at the age of 15 after playing junior football with Collingham and Tadcaster Albion. At Doncaster he made it to the first team subs bench at the age of 16 and gained experience in loan spells at Goole and Gainsborough Trinity.

After leaving Doncaster he spent some time at Hartlepool before joining Forest Green at the start of the 2015-16 season.

Jonny said: “I am looking to play some games after being badly injured last season, playing the first 20 games and then missing a big part of it. The Guiseley manager, Locky, was interested in me and in the position Guiseley are in at the moment I would just like to help them out a bit and get them up the table.”

Maxted replaces former Altrincham goalkeeper Tim Deasy in the Guiseley squad.
