ADAM BOYES’ sharp-shooting prowess may have earned him the Vanarama North player-of-the-month award following a stand-out September, but it’s his other qualities which are pleasing Mark Bower as much.

The ex-Gateshead striker, who joined Guiseley permanently in the summer, hit four goals last month and some choice ones at that.

It helped secure him the monthly players’ gong from divisional judges and plenty of praise from his manager.

Lions chief Bower, whose side triumphed 3-1 at Stalybridge on Tuesday, with Boyes netting to take his seasonal tally to seven, said: “Adam has done really well for us and fully deserves the award.

“Scoring goals is what captures the headlines and he is a good finisher. We have been creating chances for him and he has been putting a few away.

“He probably could have even had one or two more as well, but we are certainly not moaning at his goals output.

“He also works his socks off for you, tackles back and puts central defenders under pressure, which is also important for us.

“Defensively, it starts from the front and Boyesy puts in a fantastic shift and work rate for the rest of the team.

“The other lads are following suit and as team, we are creating chances for him.”

Boyes added: “It’s been a really pleasing month for me personally both in terms of scoring goals and helping the lads get some of the good results we’ve had.

“Hopefully I can keep on scoring goals and assist the team as we look to continue challenging at the top end of the Vanarama Conference North.”
