Farsley Celtic continued their unbeaten start to the Evo-Stik Premier Division season with a 2-1 win away to Halesowen Town.

Nathan Cartman gave Farsley a deserved lead as he slotted home to complete a great move, before two minutes later James Walshaw scored his fourth of the season to double Farsley’s lead, as he latched on to the ball following some excellent battling from Adam Clayton and James Pollard.

Halesowen looked to respond but Celtic goalkeeper Graeme McKibbin was equal to the task, making a superb save at point blank range from Joseph Howell.

Halesowen did pull one back late on as substitute Roland Agbor slotted home for the hosts, however Farsley saw out the remaining minutes to take the three points.

All Division One North and South sides were in FA Cup Preliminary round action at the weekend, with Ossett Town producing the pick of the results with a 2-0 victory away to Sheffield FC.

Ossett took the lead as Brett Souter knocked Steven Ridley’s header into his own net, before in the second half Josh Snowden headed home to secure the win.

Frickley Athletic also progressed into the first qualifying round as they defeated Runcorn Town 2-1, with Jacob Hazel and Teddy Bloor scoring in the second half, before Seb Julien scored Runcorn’s consolation late on.

Ossett Albion were knocked out by Droylsden as they lost a thriller 4-3. James Eyles gave Albion an early lead before Droylsden fought back to lead through Ciaran Kilheeney and Alex Frost, however they were also reduced to 10 men.

Eyles then levelled for Albion before Kilheeney regained Droylsden’s lead.

Ossett thought they had earned a replay as James Hurtley levelled in the 84th minute, however Alex Frost pounced in injury time to send Droylsden through.

Elsewhere, Tadcaster Albion lost 1-0 at home to Colne with Danny Wilkins scoring the winner, whilst Brighouse lost 3-2 to Bamber Bridge despite leading 2-1 through Aaron Martin and Nathaniel Brown, as Jamie Milligan scored two late goals to send Bridge through.


GARFORTH TOWN moved up to third place in the NCE Premier Division thanks to a 2-0 home victory over Penistone Church.

Callum Ward gave the hosts the lead on 35 minutes before Lee Turner doubled the advantage.

Pontefract Collieries got the better of second-placed Hemsworth Miners Welfare courtesy of Vaughan Redford’s goal just after the hour mark.

The victory lifts Pontefract up to seventh place in the table.

Liversedge moved into eighth spot after a resounding 5-1 victory at Clipstone.

Devonte Morton gave Liversedge the lead on 19 minutes before Brandon Kane added a second on 32 minutes.

Stephen Wales made it 3-0 10 minutes later but the hosts grabbed a goal back through Gareth Curtis before half-time.

However, Wales bagged his second goal after the interval and Tom Brook completed the scoring on 63 minutes.

In Division One, leaders Yorkshire Amateur chalked up a 1-0 at Hallam thanks to Fernando Moke’s 25th-minute goal.

Selby Town moved up to seventh place following their 3-2 home victory over Retford United.

Kyle Wesley gave the visitors the lead on 17 minutes but the hosts equalised through Nicholas Kennedy on the half-hour mark.

Joseph Dale and Keiran Harris then added further goals for Selby before Zak Khaufa replied for Retford with seven minues left on the clock. But the hosts hung on for victory.
