National League North - Emerging youngsters enable Guiseley to stay competitive

The 10-man Lions picked up a point on Tuesday night when Academy graduate defender Nathan Newall struck to make it 1-1 in the sixth minute of stoppage time. The youngster was one of four teenagers used by Guiseley on the night, further proof that the club are adapting to trying circumstances and developing its pool of young talent.

And Bignot knows that he and co-manager Russ O’Neill will be able to rely on the youngsters coming through.

“Big credit to Academy head Dave Currie and the club, they do bring some players through,” said Bignot. “We have been delighted with Nathan and Lewis Hey – we have about half a dozen boys train with us each week.

“There are two ways you can look at recruitment, we cannot sign today’s best players – financially we cannot afford it – or you have got to find tomorrow’s best players.”

Today Guiseley were due to return to Nethermoor to host Brackley Town, but the match has been postponed due to a Lions player awaiting the result of a Covid-19 test.

Farsley Celtic are back in action today, heading to second-placed AFC Fylde in search of their first league win of the season and hoping to avenge a 3-1 home defeat in the FA Cup third qualifying round on October 13.
