Women's round-up: Brighouse are basking in FA Cup scalp glory

Top scorer Jodie Redgrave gave Town a deserved early lead before Derby struck late in the first half to leave the scores level at half-time.

Brighouse’s dominance was soon rewarded when Redgrave fired her and Brighouse’s second, before a superb late strike from the returning Annabelle Cass sealed a memorable victory.

There was no cup joy for Guiseley Vixens in the FAWPL Cup, however, after they were thrashed 5-0 by league rivals Nottingham Forest, while Leeds United suffered an agonizing exit in the FAWPL Plate in a 5-4 penalty loss to Fylde, drawing 0-0 after extra time.

Meanwhile, a hard-fought 5-3 victory at Leeds Medics and Dentists saw leaders Tingley Athletic continue their flawless start to the West Riding Premier Division.

However, they will be keeping one eye on possible title-challengers Hepworth United, after they bagged a 5-3 win of their own to leave opponents Wetherby Athletic still without a point.

Joint-bottom side Brayton Belles also saw a first point slip from their grasp after Harriet Brewer’s strike earned home side Silsden Firsts a 1-0 win, while goals from Natalie Bell and Ashley Butler were enough for Bradford Park Avenue to see off Brighouse Athletic 2-1 for their first win this year.

Ossett Town Firsts returned to the First Division summit after a convincing 4-1 victory at Clifton Rangers, while at the other end a hard fought 2-1 win at Leeds City saw Republica Internationale leap off the foot of the table.

An engrossing title race in the Second Division, meanwhile, saw league leaders Lower Hopton sweep Skipton Town aside 7-0 to carry on their winning start, while Middleton Athletic also cruised 7-0 at Ossett Town Development to remain hot on Lower Hopton’s heels.

It was business as usual for Third Division leaders Thackley who eased to a 5-0 win over Phoenix.

Tyersal remain close behind in second place after braces from Abbie Tate and Sophie Woodrup, as well as Nicky Davies and Lauren Burnett’s goals, sealed a comfortable 6-1 win at New Farnley.

Also firmly in the title mix are Ilkley Town, reaching double figures at Kirkstall Crusaders with four from Jessica Tindale and hat-tricks from Holly Limon and Charlotte Hill to earn an impressive 10-0 win.
