Chapel Allerton – seven points adrift from every other team – looked to discard a three-point chunk of that gap as they welcomed Colton.

Their attention will now be turned to their next game, though, having suffered a 6-2 loss. Despite goals from Dave Martyn and Kieron Brisset-Grant, Bill Roberts hit back with a brace for Colton before Ben Clark and Josh Gould added one each and two from Ashley Bell ended Chapel Allerton’s hopes.

Next week’s fixtures will see New Pudsey host Colton in a match where the winner could end the day at the top of the division, with Horsforth Fairweather also in the reckoning to become the new league leaders.

A bottom-of-the-table clash between Oulton Athletic and Horsforth Saints produced a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Liam Atkinson scored two for Oulton before Danny Azzaro hit back for Horsforth.

Grey and Ford then combined for Horsforth Saints to add another two to their tally before reliable German (origin anyway) Negelein engineered a comeback for Oulton to earn them what could be a point a valuable point.
