West Yorkshire League: Cut-throat Horbury Town put struggling Whitkirk to the sword

It was seventh heaven for Horbury Town this weekend as they tore apart struggling Whitkirk Wanderers 7-0 in the Premier Division, writes Amitai Winehouse.

Lee Geraghty’s two goals were added to by Mark Atkinson, Andrew Liversidge, Lee Mills and James Taylor to give Horbury a massive win.

The top of the table clash between Leeds City and Bardsey fizzled out into a 0-0 draw.

With City 13 points behind Bardsey, a point was not enough to keep their challenge alive.

Oxenhope Recreation continued their recent run of form by beating Ripon City 6-0.

Dan Moriarty, Michael Garnett and Tom Marshall scored two goals each.

Kippax managed a 4-0 win against Shelley.

Kippax’s goals came from Joseph Thorpe and Richard Jackson and a brace from Jonathan Walsh.

Fellow relegation battlers Wetherby Athletic could manage only a 2-2 draw against East End Park.

Liam Clarke and Glenroy Hylton scored for East end Park.

Brighouse Old Boys played out a 1-1 draw with Beeston St. Anthony’s.

Paul McMullen bagged for Beeston, but Matthew Roy’s goal gave Brighouse a point.

Hunslet Club and Boroughbridge also drew 1-1 at the weekend, with Innocent Huly scoring Hunslet Club’s goal.

In the League Cup, Field stormed to a 6-1 win against Otley Town.

Hat-trick hero Andrew Benjamin took the plaudits, but additional goals from Daniel Cunningham, Darryll Leach and Christopher Wood ensured Field progressed. Michael Sproats scored Otley’s only goal.

In Division One, Ilkley Town drew 1-1 with title rivals Knaresborough Town.

James Hanna scored Ilkley’s only goal.

With eight games in hand on Ilkley, Robin Hood Athletic seem possible title winners after their 3-0 win against Altofts moved them within two points of the top.

Daniel Chadwick, Dale Pickering and James Finlayson scored Athletic’s goals.

Baildon Trinity Athletic slumped to a 2-0 loss against Wyke Wanderers.

Ben Bodle and Ian Horrocks scored the goals that consigned Baildon to another loss.

Carlton Athletic won 4-3 against Featherstone Colliery.

Scott Ellam’s goal and Kyle Sambrook’s brace were not enough to avoid a loss for Featherstone.

Stanley United won 1-0 against Kellingley Welfare to move up to eighth in the league. Ashley Munton scored the only goal of the game.

Pool leapfrogged Old Centralians in the league by beating them 2-1 at home.

Neil Ebdon scored a brace for Pool, with Joe Cox scoring for Old Centralians.

Old Headingley won 5-0 against Aberford Albion.

Old Modernians also managed a 5-0 win against Sherburn White Rose.

There was a shock at the top of Division Two as Swillington Saints thrashed leaders Thornhill 5-1.

Jamie Davies and Daniel Jackson bagged a brace apiece, with Jamie Scott rounding out the goals.

Glasshoughton Welfare managed a 2-1 win against Great Preston, with Liam Cooper and Liam Kellett scoring their goals.

Daniel Broadbent scored both in Howden Clough’s 2-0 win against Woodhouse Hill (Normanton).

Mount St. Mary’s won 5-1 against Yorkshire Amateur, with goals coming from Thomas Hamill, Jamie Miller and Joe Tasker. Joe Kay scored a brace.

Barwick beat Garforth Rangers 5-2 away from home.

The pick of the Alliance Division One saw Beeston St. Anthony’s Reserves keep up their title push with a 5-3 win against Wetherby Athletic Reserves.

In the Alliance Division 2, a bottom of the table clash saw Pool Reserves beat Barwick Reserves 3-0.
