Leeds Schools Under-11s kicked off their season with a commanding 4-2 win away at Derby.
Leeds started in style with Bradley Wood scoring and Kron Abidu pouncing on a goal-kick to double Leeds’ lead.
Derby dominated the second period and drew level at 2-2 but a third-period riposte from the visitors handed them a win. Neat play between Ben Redshaw and Ben Moss allowed the former to hit home, before Abidu scored his second from a rebound.
Leeds drew an earlier friendly against Barnsley 2-2. Oli Pryszczyk’s quality strike from outside the box and Luca Fella’s volley were cancelled out by the hosts who scored from a late free-kick to nick a draw.
A joint effort by Garforth Villa Junior Football Club, Garforth WMC and Barclays Bank Garforth Branch has raised a total of £3,000 for Children In Need.
Villa raised £1,079.25 through all the juniors at doing a ‘dribble-a-thon’ where players were sponsored to dribble a football a mile.
Parents and grandparents then staged a walking football evening with Barclays Bank, whose TV advert inspired the ‘walking football’ event, offering to match what the club raised up to £1,000.
Garforth WMC, who originally asked Villa to help them raise funds for this cause, also raised £743.71 from a karaoke and jamming night and £60.04 from collection buckets with the rest by a club donation.
