Top at Christmas in the three biggest leagues ‘Goals’ covers – the West Yorkshire, Yorkshire Amateur and Leeds Combination.

There are, of course, plenty of others with a busy weekend taking us to Yuletide and the grassroots scene’s Festive break with no games planned for this weekend.

Goals will be back two weeks today after the frolics of new year and Christmas which is finally here amid very un-Christmas like temperatures of 11 degrees which are forecast for Leeds on Friday. Zilch chance of a white Christmas then but no need to worry about postponements with every league we cover now taking a deserved break.

Time for feet up with a few drinks with loved ones – and a sigh of relief for those media folk covering AFC Bournemouth.

It’s pretty much a given that professional footballers train on Christmas Day these days with Steve Evans revealing in the pre-match Preston programme that his Leeds United players would be in at Thorp Arch on Friday morning.

A press conference is also needed ahead of Sunday’s visit to Nottingham Forest which Evans arranged for 9.30am this morning.

You’re less lucky if you’re covering Rotherham with Neil Redfearn calling his for Christmas Eve morning.

But social media was rife with rumours this week that AFC Bournemouth were holding theirs at 8am on Christmas Day.

Thankfully those rumours proved unfounded with the club’s broadcast/video/presenter Kelly Somers Tweeting: “To confirm #afcb’s press conference this week is NOT on Christmas Day and never was - not sure where that rumour has come from!”

It was actually held at 8am this morning. False alarm. So happy Christmas to one and all, from folk in Leeds to a very relieved media presence in Bournemouth!
