Leeds Sunday League: Zubry claim high-profile scalp to go top of ladder

KKS ZUBRY took the scalp of Leeds Sunday League leaders Chapeltown Fforde Grene as a 5-2 away win took them top of the Hope Cup Group B.

Raph Chisolm and Aiden Towna both bagged braces for Zubry whose Ashley Dublin also netted as goals from Lutel James and Tesfa Walton for once failed to save Fforde.

Seacroft AFC secured a narrow 2-1 win over visiting East End Park WMC which saw them go three points clear at the top of Group C. A Renal Edwards strike and an own goal secured the victory with Darryl Hargreaves scoring for the visitors.

Andy Brewitt’s hat-trick sealed a 3-0 victory for Badri over Bramley Villagers as they went second in Group D. Bramley stay rooted to the bottom of the table.

In the Barrass Cup, Station Whites recorded a 4-0 win at home to Harehills WMC to narrow the gap at the bottom of Group A to just two points.

A brace from Terry Palmer plus goals from Paul Cuthbertson and Chris Naylor sealed the victory.

In the Terry Pears Premier, Halfway moved third by thrashing seventh-placed hosts Richmond Hill 4-0 with goals from Scott Goodall, Adam Pullford, Lee Robinson and Elliot Heeds.

In the Championship, West Leeds Wortley drew 2-2 at home to mid-table rivals East Leeds Celtics.

Wortley goals came from Mark Ferguson and John Friery whilst Steve Johnson and Robert Olde notched for Celtics.

Leeds YMCA strengthened their lead at the top of the Leeds Sunday Alliance Premier with a 5-1 victory over visiting Republica Internationale. Keir Elliot bagged a hat-trick for the hosts whose Mark Beattie and Daniel Walker also netted. Sai Murray scored Republica’s consolation. Champions Commercial HQ slipped to second after drawing 2-2 at home to fifth-placed Torpedo Woodhall.

Two smart finishes from Andreas Matthews saw Woodhall almost secure a memorable away win in gale-force conditions. A 25-yard screamer from Nathan Swires and a header from Jon Weston gave Commercial a point.

Gascoigne moved second with a 1-0 triumph at home to fourth-placed Halfway House Bramley.

Third-bottom Seacroft Colts secured their first win in four games with a 3-2 triumph at Seacroft Colts Stallions thanks to strikes from Stephen Cooper, Ben Smith and Brian Johnson.

Fourth-bottom Northern Star came from a goal down to secure a 2-1 win over visiting Moortown Albion after two fine goals from Kieron Deighan.

Second-bottom Elford obliged 2-0 at basement boys Temple AFC.
