Junior Football: Determined Drighlington deliver again on two fronts

Drighlington UNDER-13S A and B continued with their fine start to the season with two more victories in the Huddersfield League.

Drighlington Under-13s A made it four wins from four with a 6-1 win at Gomersal Under-13s keeping them joint top of Division One of the Huddersfield League. Jordan Broadbent scored a fine hat-trick for Drig with Jacob Phillips bagging a brace and Harry Carney the other. The man of match award was shared with Joe Booth and Kyle Murtagh.

Drighlington Under-13s B enjoyed a 2-1 victory at home to previously unbeaten Shelley Under-13s to go joint top of Division Two. Luke Marshall put Drig ahead in the first half and while Shelley drew level after the break, Tom Solomons converted a late penalty to seal the win. Krysten Gregory again had a fine game in defence to share the player of the match award with Harry Sharp.

In Division One, Ossett Albion Under-13s slipped to a 3-2 defeat against visiting Honley Under-13s in Division One of the Huddersfield League. Albion dominated the first half but wasted a host of chances before conceding twice from long range free-kicks. A third Honley goal midway through the second half sparked Albion into life with William Spiers scoring twice but despite further chances they were unable to find an equaliser.

In Division 5A, Hall Green United Under-13s were walloped 12-1 by visiting Gommersal & Cleckheaton who arrived with half a team of players from Division One. Green found the net through a goal laid on by Alex Welch for United player of the match Cameron Gill. Green’s emergency goalkeepers Aiden Teasdale and Joshua Geary were both awarded the best attitude for standing in for the side’s missing regular.

And in Division Two of the Garforth League, Hunslet Under-13s went second in Division Two of the Garforth League with a 3-2 win against Colton Under-13s. Hunslet goals came from Kayden Henry, Ikebana Ezeadum and Ryan Ngonji but Greens ’keeper Kane Bonner took his side’s man of the match award for a string of stunning saves.

Elsewhere, Kirkstall Crusaders Under-18s Whites shared a helter skelter 4-4 draw with hosts Farnley Juniors Under-18s in Division 1A and 1B of the Garforth League. Farnley raced into a 3-0 lead but Kirkstall goals from Rexhep Ejupi, Adam Walwyn and Kyle Wilcock made it 3-3 with 10 minutes to go. The hosts then again got their noses in front but Wilcock completed his brace and gave Kirkstall a share of the spoils. Notable Kirkstall performances came from Jordan Gibson and Captain Liam Marshall.

Hall Green United Under-16s slipped to a 7-4 loss at Birchencliffe Under-16s in Division Three of the Huddersfield League. The defeat came despite Curtis Preston scored an impressive four goals for the second time this season.

Phil Newsome took the Green man of the match award for his gallant display in defence.

Churwell Lions Under-14s booked their place in the next round of the U14 County FA Junior Trophy with a 5-0 victory at home to Howden Clough Under-14s. Braces from Tom Davidson and Ellis Hartley were supported by a Luke Hembrow strike.

Ossett Town Panthers Under-14s exited the competition with a 4-1 loss on penalties against higher league Hebden Bridge Under-14s.

The game finished 1-1 after extra-time with Panthers taking Hebden Bridge to spot kicks thanks to Edward Colley’s strike. However, Reece Cowan saw his penalty saved and with Seb Fealy blazing over the bar Panthers were chinned 4-1 in the shoot-out with Ben Fishman the solitary scorer. Defeat came despite a fine performance from Lewis Cartledge throughout.

Hall Green United Under-12s enjoyed a 7-4 victory at Gommersal & Cleckheaton Under-12s in Division 5B of the Huddersfield League. Green went 2-0 down but fought back to level through Alex Tunningley and Dalton Jackson. Emily Sykes then put United ahead after which the floodgates opened through a Dovydas Burtulis brace followed by second goals for Sykes and Jackson. Kane Hay took the Hall Green player of the match award.

Hall Green United Under-11s romped to a 10-2 victory at home to Lepton Highlanders Under-11s in Division 4B.

Green lead 5-0 at half time with goals from Aaron Boland and two each from Cian Small and Marcus Barrett.

Small completed his hat trick in the second half with Barrett going on to net a total of five goals and the player of the match award.

Keaton Harrison then rounded off the tally.

Kirkstall Crusaders Under-11s drew a 4-4 thriller at Leeds City Juniors Under-11s in Division Two of the Garforth League.

Kirkstall’s Reece McDowell opened the scoring with a goal of the season contender before Hadley Speight weighed in with a brace.

Leading 3-0, Crusaders looked destined for victory but a remarkable fightback saw City bang in four goals without reply.

Kirkstall were suddenly heading for defeat but after both Jermain Ashby and Roman Maddern had hit the post, Eleanor Mosley hit a late screamer to level the scores.

Hall Green United Under-10s A lost out 3-1 at home to a physical Kirkburton A Under-10s in Division S of the Huddersfield League. Defeat came in spite of intense second half pressure and a superb strike from Green player of the match Jack Copley.

Hall Green United Under-10s B dispatched visiting Kirkburton Under-10s 5-0 in Division F.

Green player of the Match Lewis Skinner hit a hat-trick with Alfie Callaghan and Daniel Duffy also adding to the tally.

Kirkstall Crusaders Under-10s had a fine weekend at Rothwell Under-10s.

Goals from Rohan Taffese, Lucky Moyo, Obinna Ananaba and Elijah Hubbard made the travelling fans smile with Cian McGill and Sam West also putting in notable performances.
