Local football round-up: Lumley and Power at the double as Horsforth St Margaret’s sink Steeton

ONLY a handful of games went ahead across the local leagues at the weekend due to the poor weather and Covid-19 concerns.

In the Yorkshire Amateur League Supreme Division, Horsforth St Margaret’s moved to within one point of leaders Wortley with a comprehensive 5-0 thrashing of bottom-side Steeton.

Among the goals for third-placed Horsforth were 
Charlie Lumley and Laurie Power who both bagged braces. Steeton have lost all 11 games in the league so far this season.

A goal right at the death from Rhys Bruce ensured Stanley United claimed a share of the spoils in a 1-1 home draw with Leeds Medics and Dentists.

Joel Moore gave the Medics the lead but the visitors could not find a second goal to kill off the game, despite creating numerous chances.

And with just seconds left on the clock, Bruce fired the ball home to clinch a valuable draw and keep his side just one point behind Medics in eighth place in the table.

In Division One, Morley Town Reserves and Horsforth St Margaret’s 3rds played out a 1-1 draw.

Tommy Hartley bagged a brace to put Morley in charge early on, but the visitors hit back with two second-half goals to secure a draw.

The result leaves Morley and Horsforth in fourth and fifth places respectively in the league.

Ryburn United Reserves moved up to fourth place in Division Two following a 4-2 victory at Gildersome Spurs Old Boys Reserves.

Connor Cooper netted twice for Ryburn and the other goals for the victors came from Oliver Alexander and George Turner.

Elsewhere in Division Two, Littletown Reserves enjoyed a 4-3 victory at Bradford Olympic.

The Littletown goals were shared out equally between James Blane, Wayne Newsome, Adam Womersley and substitute Jacob Holt. 

Only one game went ahead in the West Yorkshire League with Pool AFC defeating East End Park 2-0.

Two goals from Casey 
Taglione were enough to see the home side claim their third Division One victory of the season which sees them move up to eighth place on 10 points.

East End Park remain in 10th spot in the table on eight points.

No games went ahead in the Leeds Combination League on Sunday.

There will be no games across the local leagues at the weekend due to the national lockdown.
