Leeds United's FA Cup tie at Newport County moved for TV coverage

Leeds United's FA Cup third-round tie at Newport County will kick off at Sunday lunchtime on January 7 after being chosen for a live broadcast.

The game at Rodney Parade is to be televised by BBC Wales as the clubs go head-to-head less than six months after meeting in the Carabao Cup.

County were beaten 5-1 at Elland Road in the League Cup’s second round in August, only the second competitive clash between the sides, but United will make their first ever trip to Newport on the first weekend of January.

The game, which kicks off at noon, falls between Championship matches at home to Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day and away at Ipswich Town on January 13.

Leeds are still to receive a ticket allocation for a ground which holds 7,800.

United were forced to fight back from a goal down in August, seeing off League Two Newport with the help of a hat-trick from Kemar Roofe.

County manager Michael Flynn spoke with confidence about next month’s tie, telling the South Wales Argus: “It should be a sell-out and hopefully we can take a few more chances that we did in the last game against them. It will be lot closer.”
