While Nuno Espirito Santo has turned Wolves into Europa League contenders, Marcelo Bielsa performed a similarly transformative job at Elland Road, overhauling the squad he inherited and guiding the Whites to promotion.
We’ve taken a look back at their most recent clash – a 3-0 win for Wanderers in March 2018 – to see what became of Leeds’ starting XI that day.
1. Bailey Peacock-Farrell
The 23-year-old stopper didn’t last long under Bielsa. Initially starting the 2018/19 campaign as the Argentine’s No1, Peacock-Farrell made 28 Championship appearances that season before being ousted for Kiko Casilla in January. 2. Liam Cooper
Still a huge presence at Elland Road, the defensive stalwart has already made three top flight appearances so far this season. Most recently, he helped Scotland to a historic penalty shootout victory over Israel in this month’s European Championship qualifier, but faces a late fitness test ahead of Monday night’s game. 3. Pontus Jansson
After playing a major role in Leeds’ failed play-off campaign in 2018/19, the big Swede left Elland Road to join up with Championship rivals Brentford last term. 4. Vurnon Anita
Has clocked up a fair few miles since he was released by Leeds in September 2019. After a brief spell as a free agent, he signed for Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia in February, but was on the move again just six months later after making no appearances. 5. Gaetano Berardi
The 2019/20 campaign ended in heartache for the towering defender after he picked up a serious cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for the final stages of Leeds’ promotion push. His contract expired shortly after that setback, but the cult hero was rewarded for his loyalty in recent seasons with a new one-year contract extension last week. Photo: Alex Livesey
6. Stuart Dallas
A player who has gone from strength to strength under Bielsa, Dallas has been transformed into a flying left wing-back by El Loco. With five goals and three assists in 45 Championship appearances last season, he was a vital ever-present for the Whites, and looks to have made the step-up to life in the top flight with ease too.
