The 27-year-old has often come in for heightened scrutiny during his time in Yorkshire, with his finishing ability called into question on numerous occasions.

This season has seen a vast improvement in Bamford’s fortunes in front of goal, however, with the hitman registering eight goals in 14 Premier League outings so far.

The forward attributes some of that success to a change in his own outlook, but has also admitted that he is still irked when pundits call him out on television when they’re not willing to do so to his face.

Speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast, he said: “I feel like I got to a point where I was getting angry with what people were saying.

"Then I realised they’re going to say it anyway. If I score one and miss two, they’re probably going to pick out the one that I miss.

"I thought, ‘You know what? It doesn’t matter what they say, I’m going to try and do my thing anyway’.

"The one thing that actually does my head in is where people that I've played with or worked with before, and they’ve always had my back to my face, and then all of a sudden they get on TV and they’re saying something else – I’m like, ‘What are you on about?’.”

Host Emma Jones said: “Let’s call them out here, Patrick. It’s a safe space.”

The striker responded: “Yeah, I will. Paul Robinson. Paul Robinson, straight out.”

Bamford went on to recount a conversation he had with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink after the former Leeds ace had criticised him on Sky last season.

He said: “To be fair, I did say to Jimmy once. He’d done the punditry on a Championship game last year, and I bumped into him in a restaurant after.

“I’ve known him since I was at Forest. He’d given me a little bit of stick and I just had a little jibe at him saying, ‘You’re not backing me up much on TV’.

"We had a little laugh about it. I get on well with him so it’s alright.”
