Tyrone Mings hails stand out Kalvin Phillips moment as England match-winner Raheem Sterling thanks Leeds United midfielder
ENGLAND duo Raheem Sterling and Tyrone Mings applauded the work of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips after Sunday's opening Euros victory against Croatia.
Phillips was handed his major international tournament debut in centre midfield and produced a superb display capped by setting up the only goal of the game.
The Whites midfielder stormed into the final third and laid on a sublime through ball for Sterling who did the rest by lashing home a finish in the 57th minute.
Asked about Phillips in his post-match interview on BBC Sport, Sterling said: "Brilliant.
"He kept driving with the ball. It was a lovely bit of skill to come inside and a lovely weighted pass."
Centre back Tyrone Mings was also asked about the goal and said: "I can't even remember it if I'm honest!
"I know that Kalvin put in a lot of good work and then Raz has obviously got the quality in front of goal and the composure, as he has shown many, many times to finish."
