Wolves bagged the only goal of the game in the 64th minute as Adama Traore cut inside before unleashing a thunderous rising drive which cannoned back off the crossbar and then Illan Meslier's back before trickling over the line.

Leeds had plenty of chances and skipper Liam Cooper was denied three times at set pieces following superb deliveries from Raphinha whilst Helder Costa also fired straight at 'keeper Rui Patricio in added time.

"It was a performance where all the boys were digging it out and we pushed to the very end but it just wasn't to be today obviously," Roberts told BT Sport.

"The goal that they scored was unfortunate so we will be in there, we will take the positives and rest up and go again on Tuesday."

Reflecting on whether it was a moment of magic from Traore for the Wolves winner, Roberts said: "It was a good run from him but then it was just a piece of luck that has obviously come off the bar and hit our keeper which is kind of a freak accident but I felt we bounced back well and we pushed to the very end.

"I thought it was a very high pressure game and both teams were working very hard and it just didn't fall our way today."

Pushed on the fact that on another day Cooper could have netted a hat-trick of goals from set pieces, Roberts said: "It's something that we have been working on set pieces and the delivery was amazing today as I am sure you have seen and it's been great all season to be fair."
