Tyler Roberts reflects on 'leap of faith' and Leeds United's first-half problems at Hull City

United led 1-0 at half-time of Saturday's Championship clash at the KCOM after Luke Ayling's fifth-minute opener but found other chances hard to come by aside from Pablo Hernandez thumping a shot against the crossbar.

Leeds, though, then ran riot after the break with Hernandez doubling the Whites advantage just two minutes after the restart.

Tigers 'keeper George Long was then forced to produce several smart saves but the introduction of Roberts from the bench for Patrick Bamford proved the catalyst for United netting two more.

Roberts firstly finished off a superb team move to put Leeds 3-0 up in the 81st minute before a fine hanging header sealed a four-star performance just three minutes later.

Midfielder Mateusz Klich provided both assists for Roberts' double.

Asked what had been said at half-time, Roberts said: "I think it was just that we were our own problem in the first half.

"We made the game more difficult.

"The game was open, it was simple for us to play through but we made it harder for ourselves and I think we just kind of reverted back to basics a little bit in the second half and upped the tempo.

"Everyone was bang on it again and it showed.

"I was just eager to get on the pitch really and obviously coming on as a no 9 I just wanted to get in as many areas as I could to try and get goals and luckily Klichy has found me on both occasions."

Reflecting on his two goals, Roberts said of the fine team move for United's first: "I think we have played football like that all season and scored goals like that.

"But it's obviously great to be at the end of it and finish it off.

"I don't score many left footed goals but I am confident on my left foot so to take it on and to get it in the back of the net was a great feeling."

Turning attentions to his impressive header - whereby Roberts beat Matthew Pennington to Klich's cross - the forward explained: "To be fair obviously Penno has played with us before and I thought he was going to get there and get the head on it.

"Then as I have seen it coming closer I have seen that he wouldn't so I have just kind of took a leap of faith as you would say but just directed it back in the other corner."
