Tony Yeboah on Leeds United's Premier League credentials and lasting effects of 'super' fans

TONY YEBOAH says Leeds United have a set-up worthy of a place in the Premier League with the Ghanaian hoping his former side can finally end a 16-year exile from the top flight.

Ghanaian forward Yeboah spent 20 months with United in the Premier League from January 1995 until September 1997 with the striker netting 32 goals in just 66 goals.

After the glory days under David O'Leary at the turn of the millennium, United were then relegated in 2004 and Leeds are still seeking their top flight return 16 years on the Whites but sit top of the Championship under head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

All professional football in England is currently postponed until at least April 30 but Yeboah desperately hopes his former side are nevertheless on the verge of finally sealing a place back in the country's promised land.

Speaking as part of an interview with leedsunited.com, Yeboah said: "The fans and the club deserve to be back in the Premier League, as they have the qualities, a fantastic stadium and fantastic management.

"We are all keeping our fingers crossed that Leeds can come back to the Premier League.”

Yeboah, now 53, also had special praise for United's supporters, adding: "For me, the fans were the reason I performed so well, they were unbelievable and they helped me a lot and I can only say thank you to the Leeds fans.

"I have to tell the Leeds fans they are fantastic, they are super fans. Maybe without them I would not be where I am today."
