Three Leeds United fans commended by fellow supporters after washing stones outside Elland Road

Allan Zan, Chris Goodwin and Steve Procter scrubbed the stones - many of which are tributes to fans who have passed away - outside the stadium today.

Steve Procter - who was passing Allan and Chris on his bike - told the Yorkshire Evening Post he had to stop and help after spotting the duo.

He said the gesture showed 'how much of a family' Leeds United fans are.

Steve told the YEP: "It was Allan and Chris' idea.

"I was passing and spoke to the guys.

"They were saying the stones were looking a bit grubby, so off our own backs we decided to start cleaning them."

Many fans took to social media to request their own stones to be cleaned if possible.

Steve added: "It just went absolutely crazy."

Soon, the trio had scrubbed most of the stones on the pavement outside the club shop.

Fans thanked Allan, Chris and Steve on Twitter.

One said: "An amazing gesture lads. #MOT"

Another added: "They have never looked as clean. Brilliant!"
