Leeds United have made a further addition to their development squad by signing 18-year-old Sam Dalby from non-league Leyton Orient.

The teenage striker, who made his debut for Orient at the age of 16, has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract at Elland Road and could make his first appearance for United in Friday’s Under-23 clash with Barnsley.

Dalby played 19 times for Orient, who were relegated from the Football League last season, and is the latest in a long line of junior players to arrive at Thorp Arch.

Leeds have been steadily building their development squad since Andrea Radrizzani’s takeover and the appointment of Victor Orta as director of football in May.

Forward Oliver Sarkic joined on a permanent deal from Benfica earlier this month after completing a successful loan spell and Finland Under-19 international Aapo Halme arrived from HJK Helsinki shortly after the January window opened.

Orta said: “He (Dalby) has already tasted League Two and National League football, he is tall and strong and we are confident that in a couple of years’ time he can be competing for a place in our first team.”
