The second weekend back after the three-month pause to the season due to the coronavirus pandemic will see the Championship's top four lock horns with fourth-placed Brentford hosting leaders West Brom on Friday evening.

Third-placed Fulham then visit Leeds the following day with Scott Parker's side still seven points behind the Whites despite their 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford on Saturday after United also blew their lines with Sunday's 2-0 loss at Cardiff City.

West Brom, meanwhile, could only draw 0-0 at home to Birmingham City - leaving Leeds and West Brom level on points - and Smith says it is now down to Fulham and Brentford to rise to the challenge of slashing the gap this weekend.

Asked in Sky Sports' The Football Show if the coming weekend potentially decides the promotion race, Smith said: "I think it does. It's a huge weekend. It's set it up really nicely.

"It's so difficult to predict though because of the amount of twists and turns that we do see in the Championship.

"But I think it's up to Fulham and Brentfird to go there and try to get the points and reduce that lead.

"It will be so difficult to predict because so many teams take points off other teams but it does set it up nicely."
