Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson has returned to the club just two weeks on from making the switch to Aberdeen on loan.

The 19-year-old had made a move north of the border until January in a bid for first team football with the Scottish Premiership outfit.

Edmondson, though, featured just once for the Dons as he made a 25-minute cameo appearance against Rangers before picking up an ankle injury in training.

The forward will now undergo treatment with his parent club after scans revealed he would be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

A statement read: "The Club this evening confirms Ryan Edmondson has suffered an ankle injury in training.

"A subsequent scan has revealed he could be out for up to 3-4 months and Ryan has now returned to Leeds United to see a specialist, who will determine the next steps in his treatment."

The Whites remain hopeful that Edmondson can return to Pittodrie once he has fully recovered from the issue.

Edmondson also reacted to the news, tweeting: "Absolutely gutted but I can assure you all that I will try my very best to get back fit and join the boys back up at Pittodrie soon."

The striker has found senior opportunities scarce at Elland Road under Marcelo Bielsa but has had an impact at development level in recent seasons.

He bagged 19 goals for the club's Under-23s side across the 2018-19 campaign and added a further 8 last term before his season was cut short in February due to a knee issue.

The injury comes as a blow to the forward and at a crucial time as he looked to kick on with the Dons.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes also revealed recently he was set to sign a new deal in West Yorkshire before the injury problem.
