ORIOL REY’S majestic volley was cancelled out by a Virgil Gomis strike in the second half as Leeds United’s under-23s drew 1-1 at Friday’s hosts Nottingham Forest.
United took an early lead through a fine volley from former Barcelona youngster Rey and the Whites then squandered chances to extend their advantage.
Jamie Shackleton headed the ball over the crossbar from close range whilst Tom Pearce was denied by a good save from Jordan Wright.
Forest then equalised shortly after the interval through Gomis who was on hand to turn in Danny Preston’s low cross.
With the hosts pushing for a winner, Whites defender Liam Kitching then made a crucial goal-line clearance to deny Gomis a second with 20 minutes to go.
Leeds resisted any temptation to play any recognised first-team squad members who are on the periphery of Thomas Christiansen’s first choice side.
