Revealed! The best value goalkeepers in the Premier League - and how Illan Meslier measures up

Illan Meslier has consistently been one of Leeds United’s standout performers this season.

The young Frenchman has made the step up to life in the Premier League with ease, and has nailed down his spot as the Whites’ number one.

So far this season the 21-year-old has kept eight clean sheets in 26 top flight appearances this term, and despite having conceded 45 goals, that figure only really tells half a story.

Meslier’s xCG (expected goals conceded) this season has been 49.22, meaning that he has prevented 4.22 almost certain goal.

Moreover, more than half of the Frenchman’s saves have required reflexes, and his short pass accuracy has been in excess of 97.5%.

In fact, the stopper has been so good this season that former Elland Road stopper Rob Green has hailed him as a “phenomenal” talent earlier in the week, citing his “impeccable” ball-playing abilities.

But how has Meslier measured up compared to some of the other goalkeepers in the top flight this season?

BettingOdds.com have compiled a study to determine who the Premier League’s most cost effective goalkeeper has been in 2020/21.

By analysing each stopper's annual salary and comparing it to the number of saves they have made so far this season, the data reveals which clubs are getting the best value for money between the sticks.
