Bamford and his team-mates have ended United's 16-year exile from the country's top flight after 13 seasons in the Championship and three campaigns in League One following the club's relegation from the Premier Division in 2004.

United's hunt for automatic promotion looked set to go down to the wire as third-placed Brentford chalked up eight-straight victories but the Bees were unable to continue their winning run and second-placed West Brom also began to falter.

With Leeds winning their last six games and savouring victories in seven of their last eight, Marcelo Bielsa's side eventually romped to the Championship title and finished ten points clear of West Brom.

“The last few days have been such a whirlwind,” said Whites striker Bamford, speaking to LUTV.

“Who would’ve thought we’d have ended up winning the league by 10 points in the end? It was so tight until the last couple of games.

“It means so much to everyone, the fans, staff and the whole club as a family has done the city proud.

“I don’t think we realise just how much we’ve achieved, there has been 16 years of heartache and we’ve managed to bring Premier League football back and until we retire from playing, I don’t think we’ll realise what kind of feat we’ve achieved here.

“I’m proud and I know the lads are proud, it has been a long season, but we deserve it.”
