Pablo Hernandez extends Elland Road stay with improved Leeds United contract

Pablo Hernandez handed Elland Road contract extension

Leeds United playmaker Pablo Hernandez has put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension at Elland Road.

The Spaniard joined the Whites ranks ahead of the 2016/17 campaign and is now set to remain in West Yorkshire until the summer of 2022.

The 34-year-old has made over 130 appearances for the club since his arrival, bagging 29 goals in the process.

Hernandez has been named United's Player of the Year for the past two seasons, becoming the first player to win the trophy in back-to-back campaigns in the club's history.

He enjoyed a stunning year under Marcelo Bielsa last term, scoring 12 goals and assisting 12 more as United fell agonisingly short in their bid for promotion to the Premier League.

Injury has limited the midfielder's minutes this season so far, having made 10 Championship appearances.

Hernandez, though, has returned to the matchday squad in recent weeks and picked up minutes in the Under-23s victory over Barnsley on Monday at Thorp Arch.
