Queens Park Rangers head coach Mark Warburton believes next season isn't important, preferring instead to prioritise an end to the current campaign.

Domestic football in England ground to a halt last week as the Premier League and EFL announced an immediate suspension until April 3.

Leeds United sit top of the Championship with nine games of the season remaining as the Whites look to end a 16-year absence from the top flight.

The current coronavirus pandemic has seen all football across Europe stop, with UEFA announcing on Tuesday that Euro 2020 would be postponed in a bid to help conclude the domestic game.

Warburton - who is the current Rs manager - believes that completing the current season is vital no matter how it alters the 2020/21 season.

"Teams may have to play three games a week to make way for things," he told Sky Sports.

"But for me, next season is not important. We have to finish this season now. Let's say October 1 ends up being the start date, and if you go through to the start of December, we're looking at a January 1 start date.

"Start in August, pre-season programme, everyone's fit and ready to go - to do that, we've got to take some pain somewhere. For me, it should be next season.

"Next season, if it becomes 19 games in the Premier League, 10 home nine away, we have to bite the bullet.

"I think you have to look at it and think how do we fit it in? Otherwise we extend for another period, no one's mentioned the new summer Club World Cup finals, that hasn't come into the debate yet either."
