NEIL WARNOCK says the current season must be completed to allow his former Leeds United side to seal promotion even if dragging on until the end of the year.

The EFL and Premier League seasons have been indefinitely suspended due to the global fight against coronavirus which has seen no professional football played since the first full weekend in March.

At non league level, all divisions below National League North have been declared null and void, dealing a crushing blow to the likes of Truro City who were top of the Southern League and eyeing promotion to National League South.

Warnock had recently been to watch Truro play and has slammed the decision to abandon the league early with the 71-year-old hugely against any suggestions that a similar approach should be taken in the Premier League and EFL.

Warnock's former Leeds side are just nine games away from sealing a place in the Premier League for the first time since 2004 with Marcelo Bielsa's Whites top of the Championship and holding a seven-point cushion in the division's automatic promotion spots.

"I went down to Truro to watch one of their games a couple of months ago,’ Warnock told the Mail on Sunday.

"This decision seems so unfair.

"I wonder if the people who took it realise how much travelling the team and the fans have to do from a place like Truro.

"I wonder if they understand how much a promotion like that would have meant to them and how much work they have put in to get into that position.

"Why make a decision like that now? Whenever this pandemic is over and people feel that it is right that we can go and watch football again, then let’s finish the season then.

"That applies to the Premier League, too. It is unnecessary to make decisions now.

"I don’t think the authorities realise how much fans in general invest in their clubs.

"There is so much at stake for clubs throughout the leagues.

"That applies to Truro City and it applies to Leeds and West Brom and Plymouth and Exeter and Swindon and Rotherham and Oxford United and Portsmouth.

"Those are just the clubs at the top. Surely, you just play it to a finish, whenever that may be, even if it’s the end of the year."
