Warnock spent just over one year in charge of Leeds from February 2012 until April 2013 as United looked to push for promotion from the Championship following their rise from League One under Simon Grayson.

After a 16-year wait, Leeds are now finally heading back to the country’s top flight for the first time since the club’s relegation from the Premier League in May 2004 with Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites having stormed to promotion as Championship title winners.

United’s success comes one year after the club looked destined to seal promotion in Bielsa’s first season in charge, only for the Whites to fall out of the division’s automatic promotion spots in the final month of the season. Defeat to Derby County in the play-offs semi-finals followed but Leeds made amends in ultimate style one year on.

The Whites will be joined in the top flight by Championship runners-up West Brom and play-off winners Fulham, and Warnock believes Leeds are the best equipped of the trio for top-flight football.

“They tried to throw it away before,” Warnock told talkSPORT.

“But I love Leeds, it’s a fantastic club, brilliant fans.

“They’ll hold their own, they’ll definitely hold their own in the Premier League.

“The other two I’m not so sure. I think Fulham have got a better squad than West Brom.”
