Wells, though, scored a controversial winner for former club Queens Park Rangers during United's 1-0 defeat at Loftus Road last month.

Referee Peter Bankes and both assistants failed to spot two handball offences from the Rs man in the build-up to the opening goal in the capital as Mark Warburton's outfit claimed all three points over 10-man Leeds.

The striker is now gearing up to face Marcelo Bielsa's side for a third time this campaign having been recalled by parent club Burnley before being sold to the Robins in a deal worth around £5m in the winter transfer window.

Wells bagged his first goal for Lee Johnson's men in midweek during a 3-2 victory over Derby County at Ashton Gate, and is now aiming to continue his good record against the Whites in LS11.

"With QPR we lost 2-0 [at Elland Road], it was a very dominant performance from them," he told the Bristol Post.

"It was a tough game, probably the toughest I've featured in this season - all credit to them, they were good.

"I got the better of them at QPR at home, I got the winner, so I'm familiar with scoring against them. So I do have a history with them and it's one I'm looking forward to.

"It's a fantastic stadium, a well supported club and one moving in the right direction. But we're here to stop that."

City travel to West Yorkshire just three points behind Leeds in the race for promotion, though they are sat seventh in the table one spot outside the play-off places.

United - despite a run of just two wins in 11 league outings - remain second on goal difference.

Wells added: "We're in a great position. We're seventh and you also think that if we beat Birmingham we could have been tied with Leeds.

"Derby came on the back of three wins on the spin and, when you look at the results, you never know who's going to beat anyone.

"You just have to take it with a pinch of salt - at times we'll underperform and not win but the three points are the most essential thing at this stage, I guess.

"Results have been going our way so we have to keep doing what we're doing and go to Leeds and be resilient and try and come back with something."
