'The most famous in the world' - Chris Coleman heaps praise on key Leeds United man

The Argentine has garnered a reputation for his unique management style and relentless attacking approach to matches, and has influenced a number of high-profile figures during his lengthy career.

Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino have both spoken openly of their admiration for the 65-year-old in the past, and it would appear that he has gained another advocate in former Wales boss Coleman.

Speaking on Sky Sports News prior to Leeds’ clash with Crystal Palace on Monday night, he said: “I know a little bit about Marcelo Bielsa, only from what I’ve read, and when I was in China we had Javier Mascherano playing for us.

"I spoke to him at length about Marcelo and he would tell me all about him.

"I’ve read a lot of books on him. He’s a unique coach. He’s a pioneer.

"When I saw the way Leeds were playing as soon as he arrived and they just missed out, and then the second season when they got promoted, I kind of thought everything he does is geared up to be in the Premier League.

"He’s very expansive and open. I think people are worried that his players could burn out with the way they train and the way they play at 100%, but I think he’s so forward-thinking in his coaching.

"Roy [Hodgson] is more 4-4-2, very regimented, everybody knows exactly what they’re doing. Marcelo Bielsa is like that, only more offensive, I would say, and we see that in Leeds United's performances.”

Coleman added: "They’re so gutsy, Leeds, when you watch them play, and they play with such imagination.

"No matter who they’re playing – top of the league, bottom of the league – they go for the three points. Not all managers can say that – I know I certainly can’t.

"If you look at Marcelo Bielsa’s team, you know exactly what you’re going to get. If you read any of his books, and how you see his teams play, then you’re not surprised.

"He’s certainly the most famous, revered coach in the world. Even the likes of Pep Guardiola would probably agree with that.”
