Marcelo Bielsa's Whites faced a baptism of fire upon their Premier League return at Jurgen Klopp's defending champions on Saturday evening but produced a fantastic display with Leeds only undone by hat-trick hero Mo Salah's 88th-minute penalty in a 4-3 thriller.

Leeds, who enjoyed 51 per cent of possession, netted through Jack Harrison, Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich but it was winger Costa that really caught the eye of Keown who expects United to cause other sides lots of bother on their top-flight return.

Writing in his Sportsmail column for the Daily Mail, Keown said: "All of Leeds United's players looked like Premier League quality in this opener.

"They were competitive all over the pitch, and Helder Costa caught my eye.

"There was one moment at Anfield where he nutmegged Trent Alexander-Arnold on the left wing and ran away from the Liverpool full-back, who was unable to keep up.

"I wrote that we should expect the unexpected with Marcelo Bielsa in my tactical take on Leeds in Saturday's Daily Mail.

"We were all wondering what he would pull out of the bag and Leeds' set-up made this an enthralling match.

"Regardless of the fact they were heading to the home of the English champions, the visitors flew forward when possible and passed it out from the back.

"Since Opta started collecting possession data in 2003, only three newly-promoted sides had managed to have more of the ball than the hosts at Anfield — West Brom in September 2004, Wigan in December 2005 and Newcastle in May 2011.

"Leeds became the fourth team to do that on Saturday, and you can bet they will cause other clubs plenty of problems this season."
