Marcelo Bielsa's on Leeds United's rout of Hull City, the necessary context, Illan Meslier and Kalvin Phillips' fitness

Goals from Luke Ayling and Pablo Hernandez were followed by a late double from substitute Tyler Roberts, Leeds scoring half of their shots on target and netting four times for only the second time this season.

They played some irresistible football in the second half and had it not been for the form of George Long in the Hull net, and the woodwork, it would have got much worse for the struggling hosts.

Blowing teams out of sight is always part of the plan for Leeds, even if it doesn't happen regularly.

"This is one of our objectives," said Bielsa.

"It was difficult for us in all the competition to get it. I wish that from now we could keep this efficiency when we have chances."

Bielsa felt his side didn't defend well in the first half, so he changed from a back four to a back three and pushed Stuart Dallas into midfield.

But what really tipped the game in the Whites' favour was Hernandez' goal, coming just two minutes after the interval. It signalled the beginning of the end for the Tigers, but as Bielsa pointed out, the side Leeds hammered were already a wounded animal.

"After in the second half what we talked about in the dressing room, and the second goal arriving quickly helped us to improve our performance," he said.

"I want to tell you that we value the result of today but we know that we played against a team who sold their best two players, and in addition they had five or six players injured. We have to put our performance in context."

The eight-game suspension handed to first choice goalkeeper Kiko Casilla meant a first Championship start for French teenager Illan Meslier.

He didn't have a lot to do but Bielsa valued the loanee's composure.

"He was calm, confident, he took risks, good in aerial play and he gave us the feeling that he is confident," said Bielsa.

Kalvin Phillips returned to the line-up after missing the mid-week trip to Middlesbrough with injury and although Bielsa said the midfielder may have felt some pain, he did not let it show.

"I think he tolerated well the match," said the head coach.

"Maybe he felt something, some pain there, but according to what I saw it didn't have an impact in his performance."
