Marcelo Bielsa valued the composure his victorious Leeds United team displayed in a 5-2 thrashing of Newcastle United.

The Whites found themselves pegged back to 2-2 with another goal from a corner just four minutes after taking a second half lead, yet remained in control of the game, continued to play with an intensity that Newcastle struggled to match and eventually fired in three more goals.

It was Leeds' first win in three outings and ensured the post-game discussion focused on the attacking excellence of Bielsa's men and not their defensive frailties.

"It was a deserved victory," said the Argentine.

"In both halves we attacked a lot and created plenty of chances but in the second half we were more efficient. The team carried on playing in a calm and organised manner and eventually we were able to get on top of them again and score when we needed to."

Bielsa, who particularly enjoyed the goals scored by Rodrigo and Jack Harrison, said patience was the key against a Newcastle side who sat in, packed the area and attempted to hit back on the counter attack. And the result allows Leeds to go into Sunday's clash with bitter rivals Manchester United in the right frame of mind.

"We managed the ball very patiently, that's what most impressed me about the team," he said.

"Winning is always a positive thing, it helps you to go into the next game more calm."

Summer signings Rodrigo and Raphinha both shone in the victory and Bielsa is content with how they have settled into life at Leeds.

"They have been with us three, four months now and the adaptation is going how we would like," he said.

"As [Rodrigo] gains more minutes he improves every time and he had lots of incidents."
