Marcelo Bielsa reveals date for Leeds United stalwart Gaetano Berardi's training return
Leeds United stalwart Gaetano Berardi will return to training at Thorp Arch next week says Marcelo Bielsa.
The centre-half, who joined the Whites six and a half years ago, has been out since suffering a serious knee injury in the penultimate game of last season.
With the title and promotion already won, Berardi fell awkwardly at Pride Park in the game against Derby County and had to have surgery in the summer.
But his rehabilitation is close to being complete and he will rejoin training on Monday according to Bielsa. As soon as he's able, he can start playing football again with the Under 23 side initially.
"He's going to be returning to training on Monday," said the head coach.
"As he regains fitness he'll return to the Under 23s."
Berardi, a cult favourite for Leeds fans, has made 155 appearances since his July 2014 move from Serie A side Sampdoria.
He started 13 of the club's Championship games last season and came off the bench in a further nine.
