Leeds United defender Luke Ayling has reflected on his stunning opening goal against Huddersfield Town.

Marcelo Bielsa's side ran out 2-0 winners at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon with Ayling and striker Patrick Bamford scoring in either half to send the Whites back to the summit of the Championship table.

The Yorkshire derby got off to a whirlwind start in the third minute as the United full-back met a Jack Harrison cross with a thunderbolt volley.

The effort crashed off the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the net as LS11 erupted before Leeds claimed the spoils.

It was Ayling's fourth goal for the campaign, with three of those coming in his last five appearances.

“I scored exactly the same goal in training yesterday," Ayling revealed.

“It just came across and I just thought sod it, I’m going to smash it. It was a nice goal, but the most important thing is the three points.

“I don’t care who scores, we’ve got another clean sheet which is five on the bounce now, so that is more pleasing for me.

“Huddersfield have picked up some form recently so we knew it was going to be a hard game.

“I thought we did well, it probably wasn’t our best performance, but we dug in and got a great two-nil win.

“We’ll go home and rest now and be ready for next Sunday. We’ve got nine more to go now.”

Ayling also revealed that his team-mates were behind his knee slide and air guitar celebration, adding: "I'm struggling to think of them after scoring so many at the minute!

"The boys came up with that one so I just thought I'd bring it out for them."
