Leeds United's return to winning ways doesn't tell full story, work still to do says defender

Leeds United’s return to winning ways does not tell the whole story and there’s still work to be done, says defender Ben White.

With Leeds unbeaten in three, having beaten Bristol City and Reading in back-to-back home games and restored a five-point gap between themselves and third-placed Fulham, the temptation might be to assume that Marcelo Bielsa’s men had rediscovered their best form.

But speaking ahead of a midweek trip to Middlesbrough, the loanee from Brighton and Hove Albion said the team’s run of four defeats from five Championship games still contained good performances.

And just because results have turned, Leeds cannot relax.

“I think we have had some results where we have played really well and we haven’t got the points that we needed,” said White.

“And in some games like [Reading] it was scrappy and we didn’t play our best football and we got the three points.

“Obviously in the last three games we have done well and picked up some points.

“The results are going our way at the moment so everyone probably thinks we are doing really well but there’s more to be done.”

The blip as White calls it, when Sheffield Wednesday, Queens Park Rangers, Wigan and Nottingham Forest each took three points without conceding a goal to Leeds, changed the discussion around United and asked questions of their title credentials.

But the centre-half says the wavering opinions outside the United camp or the tension in the air during games didn’t change the squad’s mindset.

“Obviously when things aren’t going the way that they should do some people can get angry and that, but obviously that is going to happen and when we are doing well it’s nice to hear them [the Leeds fans],” he said.

“Everyone is going to have their opinion and we are doing the best we can.

“When we were in that blip we were the same as we are now so nothing changes, we are just focused on our next game.”

That next game is Middlesbrough, away, tomorrow night.

Jonathan Woodgate’s side haven’t won since New Year’s Day and have slipped to within three points of the relegation zone.

The home side’s form, coupled with Leeds’ resurgence, does not necessarily make for a forgone conclusion, insists White.

“It’s going to be tough if they are down there,” he said.

“No game is easy in the Championship and we are going to go there and look for the three points.

“We are looking to get some points on the board and keep moving up.”
