Leeds United's Gjanni Alioski hails team mate as left-back takes in Euro 2020 swan song
LEEDS United's Gjanni Alioski saluted a 'legendary' team mate before being confirmed a starter for North Macedonia in his own Euro 2020 swan song.
Goran Pandev is his country's all-time record goalscorer but the 37-year-old captain will play his last game for North Macedonia in Tuesday evening's European Championships Group C finale against the Netherlands in Amsterdam (kick-off 5pm).
North Macedonia lost their first two games of the Euros against the Ukraine and Austria and will finish bottom of the group, so are already out.
Pandev and Whites left-back Alioski both start against the Netherlands and ahead of the contest, Alioski posted a photograph of himself saluting Pandev on his Instagram story accompanied by the words 'last dance of the legend'.
But as Pandev bids farewell to the international scene, Alioski's future also remains unclear and Tuesday's outing could prove his last as a Leeds United player.
Alioski's current contract at Leeds expires next Wednesday and the 29-year-old has yet to sign United's offer of a new deal, which remains on the table.
Leeds are adamant that Alioski is still very welcome to stay and would be open to further discussions with the player and his representatives.
Alioski has had interest from elsewhere, including from clubs in Turkey, and the Whites left back now has one final outing in the shop window as North Macedonia take on The Netherlands in their last European Championships fixture.
Reports in Turkey also suggest that Alioski has been offered a contract by CSKA Moscow.
