Have your say

Andy, your thoughts please on Leeds United signing Connor Wickham – are you happy with that?

It’s a good move. I definitely think he has a hell of a lot to offer for Leeds and is just what they need as well.

He’s got pace, is powerful and can score goals.

Maybe he has lost his way just a little bit from when he burst onto the scene at Ipswich. But he has done well in the Championship and is a great signing. It’s a coup for Leeds.

He knows this level and teams will know he can cause them problems.

He’s very, very strong and although he’s a big lad, he also has a lot of skill.

I am surprised Leeds have got him, to be honest. But it’s a pleasant surprise and a real boost.

Obviously, Ross has done brilliantly with his goals, but he can’t do it every week, can he.

Connor for me will help with the goals load and is the type of player that someone like Matt Smith can aspire to, if you like.

He is a similar build and player in terms of the physical stature and I do think that Matt can maybe learn a little from Connor.

I don’t think Matt should feel he will go down the pecking order as such neither because he is still a young player, not long out of ‘nappies’ in non-league and it will be a good thing watching and playing with Connor. Because I am sure he will get time on the pitch with him and training with him.

Looking at the Middlesbrough game, Leeds were certainly lacking something, certainly someone with a bit of muscle.

Matt has done well, but maybe the time had come for someone to come in with a little bit more Championship experience.

It will also help Ross out even more as well.

Leeds need to be little bit more incisive, judging by their performances in the past few weeks and I think that’s fair comment.

If they are going to have a faint chance of the play-offs, it’s all about results and goals now and Leeds need to do a bit more now.

They didn’t create much at Middlesbrough, let’s face it and the time was right to bring in another addition and add to their striking numbers. With Connor adding to Ross and Matt, that will help with things and provide a much-needed other option.

It’s all about results and winning games at this stage of the season, the business end and the more goalscorers you can have at your disposal, the better and I am sure Brian McDermott will be delighted to have landed Connor and you can bet that quite a lot of other sides will have also been trying to get him.
