LEEDS UNITED have been handed a tough start to the 2015-16 campaign, which kicks off with a Roses clash against relegated Burnley at Elland Road on August 8.
United’s fixtures for the new Championship season were revealed yesterday, with Uwe Rosler’s side facing lengthy back-to-back trips to Reading and Bristol City respectively on August 15 and 18 following the Clarets’ opener.
They must also negotiate an early away clash on August 29 at Derby County, where they have lost on their last seven visits.
United also face a home derby in the opening month of the campaign against Sheffield Wednesday on August 22, with the final month of the season also looking a difficult one on paper.
The relegated trio of QPR, Burnley and Hull are on the agenda in April, along with a derby at Rotherham and a home clash with a side tipped to fare well in 2015-16 in Wolves.
Leeds also end the season as they started it, against Lancastrian opposition – in this case Simon Grayson’s Preston, who host United at Deepdale on May 7.
Lifelong Whites fan Grayson will make his first return to Leeds with his North End side on December 19 – following his sacking in February 2012.
Meanwhile, United’s Christmas assignments have a familiar East Midlands look, as they visit Nottingham Forest over the Yuletide season for the fourth successive year.
Leeds United head to the City Ground on Boxing Day.
Leeds finish 2015 against the side who they faced in their final fixture of the previous calendar year in Derby – this time at Elland Road on December 28.
Meanwhile, striker Lewis Walters is the latest young player to commit his future to Leeds – and Eric Grimes and Lewie Coyle are expected to follow suit shortly.
Walters has agreed a new one-year deal with the club and will officially put pen to paper in the next few days.
Leeds have secured the futures of a host of the club’s talented development squad stars so far this close season, with Kalvin Phillips, Alex Purver, Luke Parkin, Tyler Denton and Jake Skelton all committing their futures to the club.
United have confirmed that this summer’s pre-season friendly in Austria will take place in Grödig, Salzburg on Tuesday, July 21.
The game was originally scheduled against Athletic Bilbao, but United will now face Eintracht Frankfurt due to the Spanish side’s commitments in the Europa League qualifiers.
