ALEX MOWATT is set to return to the Leeds United match-day squad for Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Rotherham United but Chris Wood will play no part in light of his recent hamstring problem.
Midfielder Mowatt has missed United’s last four games with a groin injury but joined the first-team squad for full training at Thorp Arch on Thursday ahead of his imminent return at Elland Road this weekend.
Wood, though, who United missed during last weekend’s 1-1 draw at home to MK Dons, is still recovering from his hamstring problem and head coach Steve Evans says the 24-year-old will “not be risked” three days before Tuesday’s important Championship visit to sixth-placed Ipswich Town.
“The plan is for Alex to train with the group today,” said Evans. “He’s worked hard with the medical team since Monday and his first time back in with the main group is today (Thursday).
“Obviously, when he is back in the main group you would say that Alex would be in the 18 for Saturday, providing he comes through the next couple of days.”
Asked about the chances of Wood making an appearance against the Millers, Evans said: “Chris Wood will be out with the medical team today doing some running but he just won’t be risked on Saturday.”
