Leeds United v Preston North End: Big match preview

Have your say

Check out our at a glance guide to Leeds United’s clash with PNE at Elland Road.

Key Battle - Chris Wood v Paul Huntington

Chris Wood.

Chris Wood.

Huntington was a young prospect when Leeds signed him in 2007 but he is older and wiser and carving out a good career at Preston. North End have reeled off countless clean sheets in the past two months and Wood, potentially as a lone striker, needs to find a way to bull their backline and break it open. Can Huntington handle him?

Key Man - Daniel Johnson

The Jamaican midfielder - once of Crystal Palace and Aston Villa - has been ever-present in the Championship this season and is three goals away from double figures. Those efforts have been crucial with Simon Grayson’s squad as a whole painfully reticent in the opposition box and Johnson’s ability is something North End have tapped into to good effect.

Last time at Elland Road:

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Leeds United 4 Preston North End 6

Goals: Leeds - Becchio 15, Bruce 20, Somma 27, 39. Preston - Parkin 5, 40, 64, Treacy 54, Davidson 58pen, Hume 79.

Phil Hay’s Verdict:

They say that Grayson struggles to organise a defence and the last time Preston came to Elland Road, his Leeds United side conceded six goals. But Preston have been impressively tight at the back recently and Leeds will be in trouble if they allow North End to get in front. There should be very little between these sides and Preston are unlikely to play into United’s hands by going gung-ho and taking big risks.

Match Odds:

Home win - 8/5

Draw - 23/10

Away win - 17/8
