Tom Adeyemi looks a major doubt for Sunday’s home clash with Preston North End with boss Steve Evans believing the midfielder has a virus.
The 24-year-old was substituted after half an hour of Thursday’s clash at Wolves when United trailed 1-0 with Adeyemi looking a shadow of his normal self in midfield.
But Evans said he could tell after five minutes that something was ailing the Cardiff loanee who the head coach defended by describing as “awesome” during his ten-game tenure.
Adeyemi’s below-par showing prompted Evans to substitute the midfielder and opt for a changed 4-4-2 system in which replacement Souleymane Doukara totally transformed the game.
Evans said of Adeyemi: “I thought he looked absolutely on his feet after five minutes. He couldn’t track one of their runners and I made the substitution.
“The medical team went over and said ‘he’s feeling a little bit lethargic but he’s fine’ but I had made my decision before the medical staff went on.
“That big fella has obviously got a little virus in his system or something like that because he has been awesome in the times he has played apart from one other game.”
Leeds will definitely be without right-back Gaetano Berardi who is facing up to ten weeks out with a torn ankle ligament.
