WHITES legend Eddie Gray believes Leeds United’s mid-week win at Reading has eased the pressure ahead of Saturday’s hosting of third-bottom Millwall.
But for winning at Reading on Tuesday, United would have approached the fixture just two points above Millwall who still occupy the highest place in the Championship drop zone, even in light of a surprising mid-week win at Birmingham City.
Former winger Gray knows this weekend’s clash might have been pivotal in that scenario but the Scot’s former side are instead now five points clear of the bottom three and up to 17th.
Gray recognises three points this weekend are stilll highly important, and hopes United can flourish being less under pressure than they might have been.
Gray said: “The Millwall game is obviously very important when you look at the league positions.
“But if we hadn’t have picked anything up at Reading then the Millwall game would have been even more significant.
“It’s a game that, looking at the league, you think you should win but football does not work out like that and it’s going to be a big match.
“I think we have got to have a go at Millwall and it’s a game where we need to go out and put them under a lot of pressure.”
