LEEDS United are favourites to beat ultimate bogey team Cardiff City tonight despite having gone a club record 12 games without victory at Elland Road.
The Whites have not won at home since March and not beaten Cardiff in their last 17 meetings - not since 1984 - but Leeds firm Sky Bet say there are reasons for fancying the hosts.
United are 13-10 with Sky Bet and only a best-priced 6-4 with totesport and Betfred despite putting in a desperate performance at home to Blackburn Rovers just five days ago.
Leeds conceded after just 17 seconds and six minutes en route to a 2-0 defeat that stretched United’s run of games without a win to six.
Add in the fact that United are 19th - just three points above the dropzone - and with Cardiff ninth and just two points off the play-offs, it’s easy to think the Welsh side would be strong favourites.
Furthermore, tonight’s visitors are the ultimate bogey side for Leeds who last beat Cardiff in February 1984, in Wales, the same season United last beat the Bluebirds at Elland Road.
Accumulatively, the score from the last eight meetings between the two teams at Elland Road would be United 4 Cardiff 12.
Plenty will fancy shovelling the cash on the Welsh side who are a best-priced 21-10 with various firms, including Sky Bet.
Yet Sky Bet’s head of PR Sandro Di Michele says Cardiff are not in great form themselves with their price largely based on their poor display in last Monday’s goalless draw with fourth-bottom Bristol City.
Di Michelle told the YEP: “Cardiff have only won away from home once this season and nine days ago they were at home to Bristol City.
“The prices at kick-off saw Cardiff only very slight favourites (13/8) to win the game.
“Not only that, Cardiff then proceeded to get battered by Bristol City and managed to hold on for a 0-0 draw.
“At present, Bristol City sit 21st in the table with Leeds 19th, so that is why we make Leeds favourites tonight - however it would take a very brave Leeds supporter to put his money on Steve Evans’ men tonight!”
Too true and the gut feeling is that the 9-4 on offer about Cardiff with Bet365 and BetVictor is a steal.
The draw is a best-priced 12-5 with totesport and BetVictor while United’s Chris Wood is 6-1 favourite to score first ahead of Cardiff duo Joe Mason and Kenwyne Jones at 13-2 along with Mirco Antenucci.
Yet it’s the simple match outcome market that by some way stands out most.
Leeds are favourites to beat Cardiff in spite of an appalling home record, a real Bluebirds hoodoo and amidst all the circus that is Elland Road.
Best bet here for Whites fans? Back Cardiff. One way or the other you will leave kind of happy.
